April is finally here. Normally March is the month that I have my Porsche back on the road. This year however has been quite different with all the snow and cold days. It’s hard mentally to prep my car and myself for the spring when it is still 20 degrees and snowing in March. My wife is from the Alpine region of Austria and as such she loves the cold and snow. Every fall she is excited and can’t wait for the first snowstorm. This year however I learned something new from her. According to Claudia it isn’t supposed to snow after March 1st. Even Claudia has had enough of winter! Hopefully we won’t have to deal with any April snow.
Now that spring is getting underway you will notice an increase in the number of club activities. Our first DE of the season was a success with everyone in attendance glad to be back on the track. One of the days was even kind of warm. Prior to each DE event we hold a tech session at Provost Motorsports to inspect the cars that will be on track. While these tech sessions are primarily for the DE participant they are open to everyone. We provide snacks and refreshments and it is a good way to meet other members of the club as well as learn things about the cars we drive.
Our tourmeister Andres Kriete has several events in the planning stage, including an overnight tour to Pittsburgh to attend the Vintage Grand Prix weekend. We will continue to have our monthly meetings at Bungs including a car show there this summer. Speaking of car shows, our Concurs chair, Mike Sokoloff, is working on a fully judged concour event to be held at a local winery. Finally there are our pure social events that allow us to gather in a more formal setting and enjoy each other’s company over dinner.
With the large number of events available communication is key. We always strive to announce each event in the newsletter well in advance. Our website, www.schattenbaum.org is also a great source of information about our upcoming events. Sometimes there are late changes and additions, and for this we rely on the PCA e-mail system. In order to be able to receive these e-mails please make sure that your e-mail address that is on file with PCA nationl is current.
I hope to see everyone at an event this season.
